Liberal machine coming through

Well two weeks into Election 07 and I have to say my early predictions of a Tory Majority are no longer. Doer is holding strong and not misstepping in any way. The Dippers are working hard and Hugh, as much as his platform is well thought out, is just not resonating as strong as he should be at this juncture. Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard on the other hand is proving that experience and life happenings are profitable in this campaign. Dr. Gerrard and his knowledge of the Health Care system, understanding of the Environment and devout spiritual strength is proving to be a formidable presence in Manitoba. In fact I had occasion to door knock with Marvin Krawec in Portage yesterday and the community is a buss with Marvin and change. Marvin is a well respected member of the community, devout father and volunteer on the Library Board, CMHA Board, founding member of Koko Platz Community Centre Board and Southport Aerospace and this as well as his consummate Liberal participation is resonating well with Portage voters. In fact I will go on record to to say he is our strongest candidate Provincially since Gordon Johnston held the seat in the 7o's. In fact Gordon's daughter Norma is his Official Agent. We spoke to former NDP supporters who took signs and say the will help volunteer and Tories doing the same. Most fruititiously a divided Tory Nomination race with the name Pallister coming up more than any other has proven to shift focus to the Liberals. In fact sitting MLA David Farshau was signing up constituents in a hurried and almost frenzied manner in attempt to get the 100 signatures to make him the duly nominated candidate. Farshau needs the signatures by Tuesday so can you say "panic" and poor organization. The man holds the record for most hours slept in the Leg so getting his forms in late may be a sign of things to come. Of special note is Marvin's stand for 5 million for a New Portage Recreational Complex a stand now supported by Doer. Interesting times and good times to be a Liberal in Portage.

well, at least you are coming to your senses.

"Hugh, as much as his platform is well thought out, is just not resonating as strong as he should be at this juncture."

darnit, there you go losing your senses ;-). "well thought out"??? ya, getting the justice dept. to focus on "getting convictions" is just brilliant...from an authoritarian perspective. focusing on 'applying the law' in an impartial way would be crazy...from an authoritarian perspective.

one thing is clear, these tories are a bunch of amateurs. what a mickey mouse operation.

canuckistanian,
I would not go so hard on the Tories they have well oiled machine and even with some nomination troubles in Carmen and Portage ..Hugh is formidable.
One thing I neglected was the amount of time, energ and money the Dippers are spending in Portage as well as Southdale ..they have some cash and are more than happy to spend it

very true, but methinks they are sitting this one out and waiting to take over once doer retires. they aren't quite ready for prime time, but will be in a few years.

Are you serious..thinking that the Tories would win ..and with a majority. Do you know what province you are in?

The tories are green and yesterday's political strategy did not help their credibiltiy.

Physical activity and health are one thing. Backing a franchise using the fruit of taxpayers $$ is not sensible or a political move.

I do agree that Dr. Gerrald is coming across strong on health and environment issues. He is a good doctor and knows the health processes. He is a valuable source to untangling the health care system.

Bobbicat,
I live work and play here in Manitoba and my job brings me in front of the business community and many have some serious concerns about the NDP hence my initial opinion of a Tory Majority.....they may be as you refer "green" but they know their stuff and have a strong organization wih lots of cash ..on the NHL the Jets - an emotion laden policy and the reason Paul Edwards lost the 14 urban swings most emphatically in South Winnipeg ....2 weeks to go and the Debates will make or break the Tories...Liberal fortunes look very good I must say with Jon and Kevin perhaps having 3 more Libs to join them with strong campaigns being waged in Fort Rouge, Portage, Minto, and Kirkfield Park.

Your job brings you to the front of the community? have you ever checked out what the other parties are saying or is your bias opinion based on other political parties.

If you would stop jumping from Liberal to Tory back to Liberal camp ..back and forth.. almost like a Belinda series.

Tories do have $$.. being dictated by big industry Check out their vote rigging scheme with Heather Campbell a few elections ago.

Dr. Jon should do what he is good at .. that is being a doctor. He would be more valuable in his field

A hockey team should not break or make a political party. If that is the case, I have to wonder how serious that political party will be on the serious issues concerning this province.

The Liberals will be lucky to hang on to the seats they have.

Bobbicat, you do not know me and your assumptions are very wrong.
I will not engage you on that for you have made some broad brush statement sthat are baseless and incorrect. I will say that democracy is accepting other viewpoints in a civilized and respectful manner something our society really needs more of. Your other comments on my actions and behaviour could not be more senseless and disrespectful to me as a person so I ask that you take them back. To be clear for better and worse I am a Liberal and take strength in being the person and human being that I am. If you are one of these "weak of character" individuals that cats calls from the cheap seats and is afraid to provide your name and loves slandering others please stay away from my blog for you are not welcome. Life is too short to listen to misguided and weak minded inviduals such as you have portrayed.
